My Political Predictions for today

Me, Politics No Comments »

We will see how far I’m off.  I have a feeling I might be off by a little bit, but I think this is going to be pretty close.  What do you think?

Pre-Elections Thoughts.

Me, Politics No Comments »

I will be blogging tomorrow my thoughts on the election.  I’d like to have a live feed but I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull that off by tomorrow but I wanted to share some of my thoughts on this pre-election day.

It’s no suprise that I will be voting for Barack Obama tomorrow for President of the United States.  While I was a junior at Eastern Illinois University I campaigned for his US Senate bid, helped organize fundraisers and walked in parades.  I saw something in him 5 years ago that sparked an interest.  His ability to simplify complex issues in away that could make people from all walks of life understand.  He spoke of self reliance, not just government handouts.    He saw that a nation divided could be reconsiled and united.  I can remember saying to my room mate, “this guy is going to be president some day!”  And I got the same reaction from many of my family members when I said, “I want Obama to be our next president.”

Many people brushed off his likelyhood to be president.  They said this country wasn’t ready for someone of african-american decent to be president and in many ways they were right.  Then that winder day in Iowa came, and Barack beat Clinton in the Iowa Caucuses.  I felt so proud that even in Iowa they could see that the country needed to change paths.  Not just political parties, but they saw that inclusion should overcome division.  Race was not a driving factor then, and I hope it will not be tomorrow.

One of the greatest things about this election has been the improbable story that we are all told as kids, if you work hard enough anything can happen.  I am so proud of how far we’ve come as a nation, where a skinny kid with a funny name, from a skin color not of the majority, can work hard and achieve great things.  The glass ceiling for african americans, and women has been busted.  Finally!

I’ve lost some family members over this great debate.  The fear, uncertainty and doubt has crept back into our politics.  We must remove this fear and hatred of others based of lies, fear, and prejuidice.  The religious intollerance in this country has shown to be a great down fall in getting great things accomplished.  The religious fundamentaliist instill fear into others and shall be overtaken back to what our forefathers had invisioned.

Now I know there still isn’t equality for all in this great nation, but the true fabric of our nation resides in the fundamental calling from the preamble of our constitution to act as guiding principles in our government.

”We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice ensure domestic tranquilty, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

It was in this calling, to form a more perfect union that marks a day tomorrow, where I will cast my vote for Barack Obama for President of the United States of America to help this country form a more perfect union.
